he was really nice in person too, when i first moved to los angeles.
he even carried his own pen so he could sign for people. he was much
older and supposedly had parkinson's disease. sad day...but maybe now
his soul can feel better as i'm sure his body was going to hell for a
long time now.

if is wasn't for people like Heston, home invading scum would be
breaking into family homes, raping and killing without fear of armed
occupants. You can thank people like him for enabling American
homeowners to decorate their wallpaper with the brains of intruders.
In Australia, they took the guns away from the public and now only the
home invaders have guns. They roam the countryside there, kicking in
doors and forcing families to have sex with each other before blowing
their heads off and walking off with all their belongings.

Maybe you live in a vacuum, but in all fairness, it isn't reported in
the Australian press since it is censored by the government to get the
spotlight off of the gun control blunder and prevent a public outcry
and fear:

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, murders have risen
from 312 in 1996 to 1,285 murders in 2007

Since the introduction of Australia's sweeping gun bans, armed
robberies rose a whopping 370 percent, from 6,256 in 1996 to 20,850 in
2007.

Unarmed robberies also rose by about 120 percent, from just over
10,100 to nearly 23,000 incidents.

In addition:

Attempted murders rose from 335 in 1996 to 1,382 in 2007.

Manslaughter rose from 38 to 149

Assaults were up from 114,156 to 232,967

Sexual assaults rose from 14,542 to 24,568

Kidnapping and abductions climbed dramatically, from 480 in 1996 to
1,662

Blackmail and extortion went from 268 cases a year to 1,298

"Unlawful entry with intent (breaking into a home or business)
involving the taking of property" rose by 300,000 cases, from 313,902
shortly after the ban was passed to 643,256 cases in 2007

Other "unlawful entry" cases increased during the period from 88,177
to 192,414

"Motor vehicle theft" increased by 80,658 reported cases, and "other
theft" rose to 1,565,214 from 521,762

Unfortunately, crime is going to happen whether there is a gun
involved or not. The sad thing is that there are people with no
morals and compassion for their fellow man that will use a fingernail
file to the throat to get their way. Whether guns are banned or
legalized, a person is going to commit an assault to get their way
with whatever is available. That is mixed in with your stats too.
This is coming from a guy that lives in Texas where concealed weapons
are legal for the citizens to carry. Crime still happens.

Anyway, this has gotten WAY off topic.

This happened in the Harry Potter reading group. Got WAY off track
and people started attacking each other and then people putting down
USA for it's crime. What happened was people started to take things
personally.

Here's the thing; crime can go up and people will argue uit has or
hasn't based upon their own unique experiences. Even though somewhere
liek Australia and US is large in area and population, stats are lower
in compared to some places like the UK where people are grouped in
lesser space and the cities may be more congested.... so crime is more
there if you equate it to land/people mass. Stats can go up 100% if
say a community had ONE murder a year with a gun and year two they
have 2 murders. Doesn't mean much when you look at it like that
right? So it's not the best idea to start quoting stats unless you
understand what the stats are based on?

Just my opinion

It's like polls on websites that have not many visitors. A handful of
people speak for the masses who are too lazy to vote... same with
straw polls and most the stats in the USA (ask one group then another
and you'll get two VERY different opinions!).

I really liked him in "The Omega Man" and "The Planet of the Apes". I
got a great TTM of him
along with Kim Hunter from "The Planet of the Apes". I think I have
several other autographs of
Charlton Heston including a TLS.

I'll most remember him for playing Moses, and a bit for the Mad satire of
Planet of the Apes where they have him say, "Let my people go!" and an
onlooker comment, "Once he gets a hold of a good line he never lets go."

Best,
Bill
