I very seldom post but I do read the posts daily and lately things have
been very amusing with several trolls ridiculing those that are posting
on topic. Which brings me to my subject: Dottie Wiltse Collins star
pitcher in women's baseball league in the 1940's died 8/12/08. Dottie
was instrumental in building the All-American Girls League exhibit for
the baseball hall of fame and was the inspiration for Geena Davis'
character for the 1992 film 'A League of Their Own'
The LA Times newspaper must of thought she was of some historical
significance as they gave her half a page in the Sunday paper.

One of my favorite autographs in my collection is Brandon Lee son of
Bruce Lee. I had the chance to meet him and get a 8X10 signed shortly
before his 'murder' on the set of 'The Crow".

Hi Pete. I had a request out to Mrs. Collins and received notice of
her passing from them. You know how they say that there is always one
key performer in a group, sport, etc. that you regret getting, Dottie
was one of mine. Yeah, it is odd that a prestigious paper would waste
all of this space on a woman that was not important to US history
(http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-collins24-2008aug24,0,3186091.story).
She and the ladies only kept the morale of an entire country going
when the men were off fighting WW2. MLB must think that they're
historical as an entire wing of the Hall Of Fame is dedicated to them.
As I said, some people are just historically inept.

Thank you for your post and continued success with your collection.

And these girls paved the way to some of us girls too, who loved to
play softball. I played on an air Force base team. I was probably
the suckiest one but it was a championship team and I got to start;
they took the base championship a couple years running . Two of the
girls went onto SAC (Strategic Air Command) teams and one I believe
went onto the Air Force team. Anyway, if not for these women, there'd
be no military or other teams most likely. They did for baseball what
Jackie Robinson did for black men. Paved the way.

Humor me here. Which part is "hogwash"?

1. That she died? I guess the LA Times was wrong. Maybe they better
have the medical examiner recheck his findings
2. That the Baseball Hall Of Fame has a wing just for the AAGPBL?
Guess they lied about that and they made it up at the end of A League
Of Their Own.
